Payton Sierra (Oglala Lakota) Finishes as Runner-up at the Spartan Invitational

ERGUS FALLS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women’s golf team won its second tournament of the fall season on Monday with a 22-shot victory in the Spartan Invitational. The Cougars followed an opening day score of 351 with a 352 on Monday to shoot 703 for the 36-hole event at Pebble Lake Golf Course.

Six golfers competed in the tournament for Minnesota Morris, with a trio finishing in second, third, and fourth places. Payton Sierra (Oglala Lakota) opened with her lowest collegiate round of 79 on Sunday before shooting an 86 on Monday to end as the runner-up with a total score of 165. Hannah Selig was third after opening with an 87 and ending with an 86 for a 173. Justine Day shot an opening 89 on Sunday and then finished with an 88 for a 36-hole score of 177.

Shelby Maloney’s round of 96 was used for the team score on Sunday before she closed out the tournament with a 97 to shoot 193 and take 12th. Tori Grates had an opening round of 100, but her round of 92 on Monday was counted towards the team score and her 192 was good for 11th place.
