Dallas Baptist University Baseball’s Rhett Kouba was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week after the Patriots’ sophomore right-hander threw a seven-inning complete game shutout against Southern Illinois on May 21. It marked the first complete game shutout by a DBU pitcher since Jake Johansen tossed a seven-inning shutout against Sacramento State on March 23, 2013.
In his seven-inning performance, Kouba allowed just five hits and did not walk a batter while striking out three. With the win, Kouba improved to 5-1 on the season with a 2.13 ERA.
Today’s announcement marks the second time this year that Kouba has received MVC Pitcher of the Week honors. He also won top pitching honors in the league after throwing seven shutout innings against Indiana State on April 24.
Kouba and the Patriots return to action on Wednesday when the play in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament
