The Valley City State University track and field teams wrapped up their season Saturday at the NSAA Championships in Moorhead, Minn.
The Vikings finished fourth out of four teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions, but had some strong individual performances.
Richard Langdeaux (Rosebud Sioux) led the way, picking up two individual titles in the distance events. The senior from Bakersfield, Calif., took first place Saturday in both the one mile run and the 5000 meters. Langdeaux beat second place by four seconds in the mile, and absolutely ran away from the competition in the 5000 meters, winning the race by 31 seconds. After his big day, Langdeaux was named Co-Track Athlete of the Meet.
Junior Malik Jackson took second place in the 800 meters, finishing just 88 one-hundredths of a second behind first place. Also adding a top three finish was Misael Herrera, who took third in the 5000 meters and fifth in the one mile.
Dillon Thomas placed fifth in both the 60 meter hurdles and the high jump.
On the women’s side, junior thrower Jessica Meland led the way with a pair of top three finishes. She placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 13.58 meters (44-6 3/4) and took third in the shot put with a throw of 11.90 meters (39-0 1/2).
Monica Madavi placed third in the 5000 meters and Sawyer Uetz took fourth in the pole vault.
