The Valley City State University men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2014 season on Friday afternoon with a home meet at the Valley City Town and Country Club. Indian Country’s own Richard Landeaux (Rosebud Sioux Tribe) and team captain led the Vikings with a third place finish and time of 17:07:96
VCSU hosted high school varsity and junior varsity races before the college races. Complete results can be found above.
VCSU had three women and six men compete at the VCSU Invitational. The Viking men placed second and had four runners finish third through sixth on the 5k course.
Malik Jackson was just 11 seconds behind in fourth place. Misael Herrera (17:43.99) and Joshua Avila (17:57.02) place fifth and sixth, respectively.
Daniel Machado (14th, 19:25.84) and Alex Askerooth (15th, 19:27.55) rounded out the Viking men’s team.
Carl Wahlin of Concordia College won the men’s race with a time of 16:30.23.
Up next: Valley City State has next weekend off before competing in the Randy Smith Invite on Sept. 12 at MSU-Moorhead.
