Robert Iron Shell (Rosebud Sioux) to be inducted into the Briar Cliff Athletics Hall of Fame in January 2023

Briar Cliff Athletics announced its 2023 Hall of Fame Class Wednesday and will induct three Chargers on January 28th. The Hall of Fame Class includes a trio of All-Americans in Robert Iron Shell (track and field), Bryan Forbes (men’s basketball) and Scott Morton (baseball). 

The three will officially be inducted into the Briar Cliff Hall of Fame on Saturday, January 28 during halftime of the Charger men’s basketball game. The contest is scheduled to tip off at 3:45 p.m.


Robert Iron Shell, Track and Field (2013-18)

Iron Shell had a decorative career as a member of the Blue and Gold track and field team. His resume at the national level includes seven individual All-American honors and was a member of five All-American relay teams. Iron Shell excelled in the 400-meter race and was a perfect 7-for-7 in obtaining All-American status at the NAIA National Championship meets. 

Iron Shell combined for 10 individual GPAC Championship Titles in the Indoor and Outdoor 200 and 400-meter races. He was a 16-time all-GPAC performer. Iron Shell was named the 2018 GPAC Outdoor Track and Field Performance of the Meet after winning the 400m championship, placing second in the 200, second in the 4×100 relay and third in the 4×400. 

At graduation, Iron Shell held the program’s records in the outdoor and indoor 200 and 400m races. He was a member of the 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams that still hold records in both indoor and outdoor. The outdoor sprint medley team that Iron Shell was a part of still holds the school record.
