The Briar Cliff track and field team competed at today’s South Dakota State Invite and several Chargers turned in stellar performances. All of the track events were run on a 300 meter track so times are converted to a flat 200.
On the men’s side, Robert Ironshell (Rosebud Sioux Tribe) set a new school record in the 400 with a 48.83 to place first in all divisions and improve his national ranking to sixth in the NAIA and is an A standard.Rusty Muncy also ran the 400 and clocked a 49.04 to place third in all divisions, moving him to an A standard and improving his national ranking to 10th in the NAIA. Raheem Cowan won the triple jump with a bound of 14.70 feet and finished ninth in the long jump with a 6.72. Cowan also placed 10th in all divisions in the 400 with a 49.47 to hit an A standard and move up to 14th in the NAIA. Muncy, Alan Gerdes, Ironshell and Cowan teamed up to run the 4×400 and took first place of all teams with a 3:14.79, a new school record and now rank third in the NAIA at the moment. Mitchell Schleis also set a new school record in the 1000 with a 2:29.69 to place third at the meet and ranks fourth in the NAIA. He also finished 10th in the 800 with a 1:54.91.Kyle Lorenzen notched a provisional mark in the 600 with a 1:22.19 to place sixth overall at the meet. Joe Jackson and Tommy Thelen each notched top-five finishes in BCU history in the 800 as Jackson’s time of 1:57.92 is the third best all-time and Thelen’s 1:57.93 ranks fourth.
For the Charger women, Nicole Kramer finished the 1000 in 3:15.61, the third best finish in BCU history. Tascha Donnelly leaped 10.99 in the triple jump, .01 off a provisional marking and good enough for a ninth place finish in the college division. Jessie Motley set personal records in the 1000 and 800 with times of 3:24.18 and 2:36.62 and Rachel Hunt also had a PR in the 200 with a 27.60.
Briar Cliff will now prepare for the GPAC Indoor Championships on February 20th and 21st in Seward, Nebraska.
