by Congratulations to Chinle High School senior Rolonda Jumbo (Navajo) who swept the Arizona Division III state titles in the 1600 & 3200 meter run at the Arizona State Track & Field Championships this past weekend at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona. Jumbo, who has already signed with the Northern Arizona University athletic program for this fall, completed the mile in 4:57.83 and the two-mile in 10:37.52. Despite coming down with an illness earlier in the week Jumbo was able to grab her 10th and 11th state titles respectively for her high school career.
Rolonda will now prepare for her upcoming freshman year at NAU in Flagstaff, Arizona where Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Eric Heins at NAU, says “Rolonda is a very talented athlete that will be able to come in and contribute right away, she has some of the fastest mile and two-mile times of anyone we’ve recruited out of high school, so she should come in and compete for our top three right away.”
