(Orlando, FL) – The New York Knicks continued their offensive misery Sunday, losing to the Miami Heat, 74-48, in the Orlando Summer League at Amway Center.
The Knicks (0-2) have failed to top 50 points in each of their first two summer league games, scoring 49 points Saturday in a loss to the Detroit Pistons. They have committed 48 turnovers and shot a combined 31.6 percent from the field. And after going 2-for-16 from 3-point range against the Heat, the Knicks are 5-for-32 from long distance in two games.
Sunday’s game was lopsided from start to finish, as the the Heat led, 61-30, through three quarters. The Heat played stiff defense for the second game in a row, totaling 14 steals.
Juwan Howard Jr. scored a game-high 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range, in just 14 minutes off the bench for Miami. Kenny Gabriel had 16 points and six rebounds, and Rodney McGruder added 15 points, three assists and two steals. The trio, which combined to shoot 18-for-28 from the field, carried the Heat who were without 2015 Draft picks Justice Winslow and Josh Richardson.
Ron Baker (Citizen Potawatomi) was the only Knick in double figures, totaling 12 points and six rebounds.
Both teams play again Tuesday, as the Heat face the Orlando Blue and the Knicks play the Los Angeles Clippers.
