SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — UC Irvine captured the title of the Mustang Challenge Saturday morning at Central Park in Santa Clarita.
The Anteaters were the top team in NCAA Division I scoring and the overall field.
Senior Isaiah Thompson (San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians) was the first collegiate finisher and second overall with a time of 24:59.6 over 8,000 meters. Garrett Reynolds, an unattached runner, won the race in 24:47.3.
UCI’s Izzak Mireles was fifth overall in 25:12.4, Nolan Del Valle finished 12th in 25:36.6 and Hector Garcia was 15th with a time of 25:51.9.
Eric Lawver placed 16th in 25:53.4, Samuel Ayala 21st (25:59.4) and Ashton Garcia 24th (26:01.9) to round out the Anteaters’ top seven.
UCI finished with 27 points in Division I scoring and UCLA was second with 30.
The ‘Eaters return to action Oct. 15 at the Highlander Invitational in Riverside.
