OMAHA, Neb. – Shania German (Dakota) is making history at her high school.
German recently signed her letter of intent to continue her education and volleyball career at College of Saint Mary in the fall. German is the first student-athlete from Tiospa Zina Tribal School to receive a collegiate athletic scholarship.
The daughter of Amanda German is a 5-3 defensive specialist. She played volleyball all four years of high school and was named to the All-NEC Volleyball Team in 2020.
“I am happy to announce Shania’s signing,” CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. “Shania impressed me right off the bat with her maturity and willingness to go out on a limb to be part of Flames volleyball. Her contact with me showed me who she is as a person and showed her high level of maturity and great character.
“It didn’t take long after our conversations to know that I wanted to give Shania a chance to live out her dream of playing collegiate volleyball. From Sisseton, S.D., and Tiospa Zina Tribal School, Shania is the first athlete to receive an athletic scholarship from there.”
German plans to study exercise science at CSM. She says her hobbies outside of volleyball include hanging out with friends and making new memories with her family.
“CSM was my college choice because I really love the message behind CSM,” German said. “I wanted to go to a college that would challenge me to be the best version of myself – not only academically, but also athletically.”
