BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– The Belhaven Women’s Basketball Team saw their comeback bid fall short on Tuesday as the Blazers fell on the road against Birmingham-Southern.
In quarter one, Belhaven got off to a rough start, falling behind to the Panthers 14-2 early. BSC increased their lead and led at the end of the first quarter 24-12. The second quarter began with the Blazers still struggling to convert from the field as BSC jumped out ahead to another 14-2 run and extend their lead by as much as 22. Heading into the half, Belhaven found themselves behind 41-23.
At the start of the second half, the Blazers managed to cut the lead to 14 at the five minute mark after falling behind by 25 to begin the third. The Blazers continued to rally and trailed 57-43 entering the fourth. The Blazers offense came to life in the fourth.
Belhaven went on a commanding 16-6 run to get the lead to within four. Belhaven continued to give their best effort but unfortunately fell just short of the comeback effort 75-67.
The Blazers struggled from the field shooting 34.3% but shot their best percentage from three this season at 37.5%. Shantashia John finished the day with 19 points on 7-15 shooting while shooting her best from three this season at 5-10.
Freshman Calise Jackson continues to be a bright spot in the Belhaven offense by putting up nine points on 50% shooting while grabbing six rebounds. Brookelynn Saxon had a very all around performance by finishing with seven points, seven rebounds, and four assists
