BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Shantashia John (Mississippi Choctaw) of the Belhaven Women’s Basketball team was named a Preseason All-America Honorable Mention by D3hoops.com on Wednesday ahead of the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
John was named to the All-Region VI First Team last year and was named the Region VI Co-Rookie of the Year by D3hoops.com last year following her impressive 2022-23 campaign. The Mississippi native is coming off a season in which she was named the Collegiate Conference of the South Player of the Year.
She averaged 19.7 points per game last season while shooting 38.8% from three and 51.0% from the field overall. John also finished as the Blazers’ leading creator with 73 assists and impacted the defensive end of the court as well with a team-high 59 steals. In addition to being named the Player of the Year in the conference John was named Rookie of the Week on eight separate occasions and Player of the Week on three. She earned one D3hoops.com Team of the Week nod as well.
Shantashia John and the Blazers will open their 2023-24 regular season campaign on Friday, November 10th as they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to compete in the Webster Tipoff Classic. Belhaven will take on hosts, Webster, at 8:00 PM Central on the opening day of the season.
