DALLAS, Texas. – She’Chem Grant netted a team high 22 points for the Majors, Sam Kohnke came off the bench to score 13 and Joshua Miller put up 11 points in the Majors 73-68 opening night loss, Wednesday night at the University of Dallas. James Turner had a big day on the glass, pulling down a game high 16 rebounds to go along with nine points.
MIllsaps jumped out to a 7-2 lead early on, after back-to-back layups by Grant and Miller, Grant connected on a three-pointer to give the Majors the quick edge on the scoreboard. After Dallas found their feet, both teams traded buckets until 6:02 left in the first half when Millsaps began to pull ahead.
With Millsaps down 22-21, the duo of Miller and Kohnke led the Majors on an 8-0 run. Miller found Kohnke for a layup to give the Majors the lead. Moments later, Miller found Kohnke again, this time for a three to give Millsaps a six-point lead. Miller finished off the run with a layup to put Millsaps ahead 30-22 with 4:45 to go in the first half. Dallas would charge back to make it a 32-31 Millsaps lead heading into halftime.
Nine seconds into the second half, Grant got it started with a three, and after a missed jumper by Dallas, Michael Sullivan took it coast-to-coast for a layup to give Millsaps a 37-31 lead.
MIllsaps hung on to a slim lead for most of the second half. But Dallas tied things up with 6:46 left on the clock and took went back on top shortly after. The Majors went up 65-63 with 2:29 to go after Miller made a layup, but that was the last time they led for the rest of the game. Dallas closed the game out on a 10-3 run to seal the deal.
Millsaps drops to 0-1 on the young season. The Majors are back in action on Saturday in Sherman, Texas as they face Centenary in the SCAC/SAA Challenge. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
