Payton Sierra (Oglala Lakota) Finishes Second to help lead Cougars to win the UMM Invite by 44 strokes

GLENWOOD, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women’s golf team put together a solid team score of 366 despite less-than-ideal conditions on Friday afternoon at the Minnewaska Golf Club to win the UMM Invite by 44 strokes.

The other three teams in the tournament were all from the UMAC, with Northland College finishing second (410), North Central University taking third (480), and Martin Luther College bringing up the rear (528).

Ellia Soydara competed as an individual for Minnesota State-Fergus Falls and won medalist honors by one shot with an 86, but Minnesota Morris had the second, third, and fourth-place finishers. Payton Sierra (Oglala Lakota) shot a 40 on the front nine and ended with an 87 to finish second. Shelby Maloney carded a 39 on the back nine to end with an 88. In fourth place was Paisley Sierra (Oglala Lakota) with a 93 after shooting 44 on the front nine.

The other score that counted towards the UMN Morris team total on Friday was Tori Grates’ 98. Justine Day shot a round of 100.
