NORMAN, OK- Saturday’s Big 12 matchup between the Kansas Jayhawks and Oklahoma Sooners was one of the rare games of the season featuring two Native American football players on opposing teams with Kansas Linebacker Gavin Potter and Oklahoma Center Creed Humphrey. Humphrey’s Sooners were on the better end of the scoreboard with a 62-9 win.
Humphrey helped the Oklahoma offensive-line dominate upfront with 340 passing yards and 200 rushing yards.
For Broken Arrow, OK Native Gavin Potter, Saturday’s game was his first in Norman against his home state Sooners. Potter picked up four tackles, one pass breakup and one QB hit in the Jayhawks’ loss.
The Sooners opened the game with 31 unanswered points, en route to their fourth straight win of the season. Saturday’s win was Oklahoma’s 16 straight against Kansas, dating back to 1997.
Oklahoma is now 5-2 on the season and their next matchup will be against Oklahoma State on November 21st.
Humphrey is expected to be a first round draft pick in next year’s NFL Draft. Last season, he was selected as Big 12 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year by league’s coaches and will likely receive even more recognition for his efforts this season as well.
For the Jayhawks, they fell to 0-7 on the season and have lost every game this year by 15 points or more. Their next matchup will take place on November 21st against Texas.
Potter has played in six games for the Jayhawks this season and has recorded 19 tackles. Last season as a Freshman, Potter received All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors.
