STILLWATER – Oklahoma State’s women’s basketball team opened its 2023-24 campaign with a 101-50 victory over Oklahoma Christian Tuesday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The win extends OSU’s streak in exhibition contests to 27, including the first two of Jacie Hoyt‘s tenure.
After a 5-5 start to the opening quarter, the Cowgirls went on a 21-0 run, sparked by eight points from Lior Garzon, to take commanding lead. They would close the quarter with a 29-7 lead as Garzon drained her fourth triple of the game with two seconds on the clock.
In the second, the Lady Eagles opened the scoring before the Cowgirls put together a 9-0 run that began with a three-pointer from freshman Brenna Butler from the top of the key.
Heading into the locker room, OSU held a 48-18 lead while shooting 8-19 from the arc. Garzon led the way with 14 points and freshman Stailee Heard added 13 points of her own to go with six rebounds.
Coming out of the half, the teams traded baskets, with OSU’s returners leading the way. Garzon buried a triple and made a fast-break layup before Anna Gret Asi hit two free throws and splashed a three of her own to extend the lead to 63-23.
The third quarter would close with Oklahoma State leading 70-39, after getting 12 points from Asi in the period.
Rylee Langerman opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a layup before Head added two layups herself. Asi and Garzon would then lead a 9-0 run with an Asi and-one followed by back-to-back triples from Garzon.
Three Cowgirls led the way in scoring, as Garzon finished with 28 points, Asi with 27 and Heard poured in 26 in her OSU debut.
Asi added nine assists and Rylee Langerman grabbed 11 rebounds to go with five points in her Cowgirl debut.
As a team, Oklahoma State shot 54.4 percent from the field, including 15-37 (40.5%) from three. They also forced the Lady Eagles into 32 turnovers, scoring 35 points off them.
