2014 Inside Lacrosse Laxies | Watch Ty Thompson’s Highlight Reel Goal of the Year
BALTIMORE – After dazzling crowds and leading UAlbany to the NCAA quarterfinals, the fans have chosen members of the Thompson Trio for numerous Inside Lacrosse Laxies for the 2014 year.
The Inside Lacrosse Laxies are annual fan votes run by the publication. Fans vote on the best of many categories, ranging from events, seasons, players, coaches and off the field action.
Lyle Thompson, the co-Tewaaraton Trophy recipient that earned an NCAA single season record 128 points and 77 assists, adding 51 goals, earned many awards, including IL Player of the Year (58%, highest total for that honor in six years), DI Men’s Player of the Year (47%) and Individual Performance of the Year (51%) with eight points in UAlbany’s NCAA First Round victory over Loyola.
Ty Thompson also earned an IL Laxie award for Highlight Reel Goal of the Year (37%) with a one-handed, underhanded and behind-the-back goal against Siena on April 22nd. In a close second was Lyle Thompson’s shovel shot, underhanded goal (33%) against Loyola on May 3rd.
Miles Thompson came in a close third for DI Men’s Player of the Year (21%). In addition, UAlbany’s close overtime defeat to Notre Dame in the NCAA Quarterfinals was voted the Game of the Year (47%).
This is the second-straight year UAlbany has been featured in the Laxies. Miles Thompson earned the Individual Game Performance of the Year in 2013 for his 14-point contest against Stony Brook.
