MONROE, La. – ULM women’s basketball head coach Missy Bilderback announced the addition of Meloney Thames to the Warhawks women’s basketball program.
“We are so excited to have Meloney Thames join our Warhawk family,” said Bilderback. “Mel is a super-talented combo guard who is a high-volume scorer. Her love for the game and competitive spirit is contagious. She has a scorer’s mentality, great intangibles and a high basketball IQ. Mel is a winner and her ability to make big shots when the game is on the line is special. We are definitely getting a difference maker on the court, but also an amazing person. It is a great day to be a Warhawk.”
Thames arrives in Monroe after spending a semester at Mississippi State. Before signing with the Bulldogs, Thames was a two-time NJCAA All-American, WBCA All-American and NJCAA All-Star at Jones College. Playing under Coach Bilderback, Thames helped lead the team to a historic 2022 NJCAA Final Four appearance and was on the team that went 51-12 in two seasons. During her career at Jones, Thames earned NJCAA All-Region 23 Team honors both seasons and was voted MACCC Player of the Week five times. She started in 56 of 57 games, averaging 16.1 points per game to go along with 216 total rebounds, 154 assists, 85 steals and 21 blocks.
The guard from Choctaw, Miss., was voted the Mississippi High School Player of the Year at Choctaw Central High School and was ranked as the top junior college guard in the NJCAA last season by Dan Olson. She was voted on the Mississippi High School All-Star team and competed in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game.
Thames will begin competing during the 2024-25 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
