USD Toreros Rally Past Tigers, 3-2; Laruen Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux) with Career High 14 Kills

STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of San Diego women’s volleyball team rallied from a 0-2 deficit to claim a 3-2 win over University of the Pacific Friday evening in a West Coast Conference match at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

With the 25-27, 23-25, 27-25, 25-22, 15-13 win, the Toreros improve to 12-7 overall, move to 5-2 in the WCC, and have now won three consecutive matches. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 14-5 overall and 3-3 in the WCC.

Alaysia Brown paced the Torero offense with her team-best 18 kills, while sophomore middle hitter Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux) had a career-high 14 kills on 26 swings and only committed one error to hit for a .500 clip.

In the fifth and final set, The Toreros raced out to a 5-2 lead to grab the early momentum. Pacific then answered back with a 4-1 run to even things up at 6-all. The two teams then traded points over the next few possessions, and USD took an 8-7 lead at the midway point on a Lisa Kramer Kill. Pacific then kept things close and USD would not surrender the lead, as they took match-point on a Pacific attack error at 14-12. After a Tiger point pulled the home team to within one at 14-13, USD called a timeout. Out of the break, Schad was fed the ball and she delivered home the final point on a cross court kill to give USD the 15-13 win.

The Toreros will return to action on Friday, as they host No. 10 BYU in a 7 p.m. WCC match inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
