MINNEAPOLIS – Surrendering an early 12-point advantage, the Augsburg University women’s basketball team dropped a 67-48 decision to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in a nonconference contest on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg jumped out to a 13-1 lead in the opening 7:08 of play, with five points from Amira LaDuke (JR, Cass Lake, Minn./Cass Lake-Bena HS) and four points from Emma Kanz (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Maple Grove HS). But the Falcons bounced back after that, outscoring Augsburg 16-9 in the second quarter and 44-26 in the second half.
• After shooting 1-for-8 from the field in the first quarter, the Falcons connected on 20-of-49 (40.8 percent) in the game, while Augsburg hit just 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the field. UW-River Falls scored 22 points off of 22 Augsburg turnovers and had a 34-6 advantage in bench points.
• Wakinyela Bear (JR, Morrison, Colo./Meskwaki (Iowa) HS) scored 15 points with five rebounds to lead the Auggies, while LaDuke scored 10 points wiht eight rebounds and four steals.
• Kanz scored nine points, and Saylor Gallagher (SO, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) had six rebounds, four assists and four points.
