After a surprising (and fun) Day 1 of the 2018 NFLDraft, the Browns started off the Day 2 with the first pick in the second round.
Why he’s unique: A walk-on five years ago, Corbett became a four-year starter at left tackle for Nevada.
Current NFL player comparison: Joel Bitonio, who also played left tackle at Nevada. I’m confident in (general manager) John Dorsey’s ability.
Chubb suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2015 and had to undergo surgery, but he bounced back and rushed for 1,130 yards as a junior and 1,345 yards last season.
Over 12 games behind Corbett, Wolfpack running back Kelton Moore netted 855 yards and scored four touchdowns on 164 rushing attempts. “Just give him the ball”. The Browns took Georgia running back Nick Chubb two picks later.
At 227 pounds, Chubb can run inside and he’s quick enough to turn the corner for a big gain. “Not only is he a great football player, he’s a tremendous person, tremendous individual, tremendous leader and he exemplifies what we’re trying to build here in Cleveland”. The interesting thing about the draft is, it’s all about nothing really because we don’t know what these guys are going to be for two or three years. Are they tough? Do they want to play the type of football we want to play?
Corbett fits that mold as well.
Corbett is the first Wolf Pack player to be drafted since Bitonio in the 2014 National Football League draft and both he and Bitonio will look to be key cogs on the Browns offensive line as Cleveland looks to make the push back towards respectability. However, he has the potential to be a very good interior offensive lineman at the next level. My brother at the time was playing at San Diego State. That was the only way I could play D-I. “It is just a difference in how you have to go about yourself when you are a walk-on”.
