(Louisville, KY) – Coming home fresh off of winning the WNIT Preseason championship this past weekend in Norman, Oklahoma against the Sooners, Junior forward and WNIT Tournament MVP, Sara Hammond of the Louisville Cardinals and teammates of Shoni and Jude Schimmel, sent out message of thanks and appreciation to all of the Native Americans in attendance at the game versus the Oklahoma Sooners.

In a Monday morning video blog posted by the Louisville Cardinal junior she talks about being exposed to the many Native American fans that showed up to the game, Hammond said, “My goodness, what a sight that was, there was thousands and thousands of Native Americans that came to watch us and support us.”

Following the victory 97-92 overtime victory over Oklahoma, Shoni and Jude Schimmel stayed after the game to sign autographs and take pictures for nearly three hours at first inside the arena and then later out in the parking lot. But it wasn’t just the Umatilla Thrillas the Native Americans in attendance were getting pictures with they were also getting pictures with the teammates and coaches from Louisville. “That’s just an amazing sight to see, you know, especially me being from Kentucky I don’t get to see that a lot.” Hammond said.  Very impressive when you consider the thousands of fans on site were a majority of Sooner fans.
