Yankees’ Jacoby Ellsbury (Navajo) says he’ll be healthy by opening day

TAMPA — Yankees CF Jacoby Ellsbury (Navajo) said that his strained right oblique, which has kept him out of the lineup since March 15, is improving and won’t prevent him from starting on opening day.

Ellsbury, 31, was hurt while tossing in the outfield before a game against the Phillies. He has been receiving treatment and said his next step will be to resume hitting and throwing.

“I guess all I can tell is just how I feel each and every day,” Ellsbury told mlb.com. “But until I swing a bat, until I throw, until I do really explosive stuff, that will be the real test. But it does feel better each and every day.”

Ellsbury batted .271 with a .328 on-base percentage, a .419 slugging percentage and 39 steals in 149 games in his first season with New York.
