The New York Yankees are slated to play their first Grapefruit League game this afternoon against the Philadelphia Phillies.
However, not all of the Yankees are scheduled to be in the starting lineup.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said most of the regulars are slated to be in the starting lineup yesterday with the exception of centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury. Before you worry, there’s nothing wrong with Ellsbury; he took batting practice earlier today and came through it fine.
Ellsbury is a little behind schedule because he was away from the team for family reasons. Ellsbury’s wife, Kelsey, gave birth to a daughter named Crew before he joined the team in Tampa, Florida.
Ellsbury should get into some game action by early next week, but for now the Yankees don’t want to rush him when there’s plenty of Spring Training left.
