NEW HAVEN, Connecticutt – Senior quarterback Mason Fine (Cherokee Nation) was selected Friday as one of 40 members of the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award watch list, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced.
The Peggs, Oklahoma, native enters his fourth season as a starter as the FBS’ active national leader in career passing yards (9,417) and is the two-time reigning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year. He leads a Mean Green offense that has averaged 35.1 points per game over the last two seasons.
Fine threw for 3,793 yards, 27 touchdowns to just five interceptions, completed 64.6% of his passes and added two more scores on the ground in 2018.

The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in mid-November. The 2019 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 130 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN on Thursday, December 12. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation’s 53rd annual national awards banquet on January 18, 2020, in New Haven, Connecticutt.
Fine is quickly piling up preseason plaudits after being named the preseason Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, as well as a member of the preseason all-conference team. Fine was also tabbed for the Maxwell and Davey O’Brien Award watch lists earlier this month.
