by SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Fort Lewis College volleyball team wrapped up its two-day, four-match slate in San Angelo, Texas on Saturday, going 0-2 during the final day of the Kathleen Brasfield ASU Invitational. The Skyhawks finished the tournament 2-2 overall.
Fort Lewis opened play Saturday against tournament hosts Angelo State University and fell in four sets (15-25, 25-23, 17-25 and 15-25) before concluding the day with a loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville (17-25, 11-25, and 15-25).
Junior transfer Chandler Karr led the way for the Skyhawks against a talented Angelo State (4-0 overall) team, finishing with team highs in kills (8) and in digs (15).
FLC senior middle blocker Bailey Longacre added six kills in the one set she played, while junior Alexa Treguboff, a transfer from Glendale Community College, and senior outside hitter Ohiyah Shirley (Navajo) each added five kills to pace the Skyhawks, offensively.
Redshirt freshman Courtney Bayles handled the setting duties for the Skyhawks and finished with 24 assists and seven digs.
Defensively, Fort Lewis had three players finish with double-digit digs, led by Karr’s 15. She was joined by freshman libero Kamryn Lopez (11 digs) and Treguboff (10 digs).
“Angelo State is a pretty legit team. We tried to give them our best look and I thought we did a pretty good job in that match. It was super competitive and I thought we saw some great things against a really good team,” said Fort Lewis head coach, Tricia Melfy.
Fort Lewis rounded out tournament play against Texas A&M-Kingsville and fell in straight sets to the Javelinas (4-0 overall).
Shirley led all Skyhawks with four kills in her one set , while Lopez and Treguboff popped up seven digs and six digs, respectively.
