LAKELAND, Fla. – West Alabama’s Jakob Bernal (Comanche/Kiowa) finished second individually at the 2019 NCAA South Regionals Saturday at Holloway Park, guaranteeing him a spot in the NCAA Championships Nov. 23 in Sacramento, California.
Bernal covered the 10K course in 32:21.06 to finish just behind race winner Mathew Chesum of Benedict at 31:48.83. Both Bernal and Chesum notched a 4.9K time of 15:26.45.
The West Alabama men finished 13th as a team in the 21-team field. Alabama Huntsville won the team event by placing five runners in the top 19. Lee was second with five competitors in the top 27. Saint Leo, Embry-Riddle and Mississippi College rounded out the top five.
