Ava Battese (Comanche/PBPN) broke the Cameron women’s basketball all-time single game three-point record

LAWTON, Okla. – Ava Battese (Comanche/PBPN) breaks the Cameron women’s basketball all-time single game three-point record, nailing ten shots from distance in CU’s 99-89 loss to Angelo State on Saturday; the senior finished with a career-high 30 points.

The Aggies were looking to rebound from a disappointing outing against Lubbock Christian earlier this week and capture their first conference win at home. Battese, who already holds the record for most career three-pointers made at Cameron University, tied the previous record, which she also held, for treys in a game during Thursday’s contest.

After narrowly missing the record two days prior, the senior guard from Elgin, Okla. did not miss her mark Saturday. By the media timeout in the first quarter, Battese already poured in a pair of treys. CU hung around after one frame, only trailing by six. The Black and Gold got a huge lift from transfer junior from Logan Collyer who poured in five points and an assist in the first quarter.

At halftime, Battese was sitting on three three-pointers on seven attempts. She went on to hit that many triples in the third quarter alone, doubling her output and putting her in prime position to topple a record she tied last time out.

Battese continued her hot shooting, knocking down her eighth, midway through the fourth period. She then nailed two more to give her sole possession of the Aggie milestone.

Cameron continued to hang around in the contest throughout the second half but could not get over the hump. The game only saw two lead changes, and three ties, with Cameron only holding the lead for 51 seconds.

In the 10-point loss, CU was a victim of 17 second-chance points by Angelo State, who almost hit 50 percent of their shots from the floor. De’Anira Moore, who scored 22 points, hauled in nine rebounds, and dished out four assists, led the Belles who scored 40 of their points in the paint.

Amaka Nwakamma again became the spark plug off the bench for the Black and Gold scoring 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds and two steals. She was one of four Aggies to see double digits in the points column with Maighan Hedge adding 23 points, Karley Miller scoring a career-best 10 points, and Battese scoring the team-high 30.
