(Duluth, Minnesota) – Olympic hopeful Alvina Begay earned a 5th place finish at the 2012 USA Half-Marathon championships in Duluth, Minnesota on Saturday June 16th. Begay finished the 13.1 mile race in a time of (1:12:25), which was a new personal record for her and was less than three minutes off the winning pace set by Karen Goucher (1:09:46).
Begay also, recently qualified for the USA Olympic trials 10,000m event at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford University. Finishing the race with a time of 32:34.76., Begay’s time for the 10K event was 11 seconds below the minimal standard for the Automatic “A” sectional of the United States Olympic qualifying standards. Her time put her in a field of 24 runners that will compete next week on June 22nd at 7:20 PM PST at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.
