Tyria Heath (Mohican/Menominee) named Midwest Conference Player of the Week for third time this season

GRINNELL, Iowa – Tyria Heath (Mohican/Menominee) and the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honor are getting to be a familiar pair.

The Grinnell College women’s basketball player earned the award for the third time this season Monday after two stellar performances in the past week. Heath, a 5-9 guard from Phoenix, Ariz. (Desert Vista), reached the 1,000-point milestone for her career in Wednesday’s 66-49 home win over Beloit College. She scored 28 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field while becoming the 10th Pioneer in program history to reach 1,000. Heath followed that up with a game-high 28 points at Monmouth College on Saturday.

Heath is the MWC leader in points per game (22.9), field goals made (177) and field goal percentage (46.9 percent) and ranks second in free throws made (110). Nationally, she ranks sixth in points per game and 13th in free throws made.
