Press Release–
New York, NY – San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski (Kiowa Tribe) was voted Major League Soccer’s Player of the Month for June, it was announced Thursday.
Wondolowski also won the award in April, and becomes the first player to claim the award twice in a season since Juan Pablo Angel in 2007. Only three other people, Clint Mathis (2000), Carlos Ruiz (2002) and Landon Donovan (2003) have won the award twice in one season.
With three goals in three June matches, Wondolowski is on pace to set a career high in goals. He leads MLS with 14, despite missing time due to U.S. national team duty, with 16 regular-season matches remaining.
Wondolowski scored 16 goals last season, and a career-high 18 in 2010.
The award is selected each month of the regular season by journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters.
Following are the 2012 MLS Player of the Month winners:
March: Thierry Henry (Red Bull New York).
April: Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes).
May: Dwayne De Rosario (D.C. United).
