DALLAS – Freshman Janie Worthington (Kiowa/Caddo) has been named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This marks the fifth time out of 13 possible chances this season that North Texas has had the Pitcher of the Week in their rotation as Worthington earns the honor for the first time in her career and becomes the first North Texas freshman to earn Pitcher of the Week distinction since Hope Trautwein in 2018. The freshman picked up a pair of wins and her first career no-hitter during the four-game sweep of Louisiana Tech in Ruston. She finished the weekend and regular season with a perfect 9-0 record and a 7-0 mark against conference opponents, she threw ten no-hit innings, issued a pair of walks and posted a 0.00 ERA.
During the 10-inning game two on Friday night, Worthington entered the game in relief in the eighth inning and threw the final three innings without allowing a hit, striking out four and only issuing one baserunner in the form of a two-out walk in the final frame.
The freshman followed up her success in game two with a no-hitter in game three of the series on Saturday afternoon. North Texas had already clinched the outright Conference USA regular season title before first pitch, but Worthington left no doubt as she no-hit the Lady Techsters, striking out five and issuing one walk and a hit batter.
