ACKSON – Meloney Thames (Mississippi Chocatw) has been named the MACCC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Thames, a 5-foot-8 sophomore from Choctaw Central, scored a career-high 35 points in No. 7 Jones College’s 86-78 overtime loss to then No. 3 Trinity Valley (Texas). She made 5-of-8 three-pointers and added three rebounds and three assists.
In a 97-51 victory over Arkansas State Mid-South, Thames scored 16 points with four rebounds and four assists. She was named conference Player of the Week twice last season.
Thames averaged 25.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 47 percent from the floor and 53 percent from 3-point range for the two games.
Thames was an NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention and NJCAA All-Star last season.
