JACKSON – For the second consecutive week, Jones College’s Meloney Thames (Mississippi Choctaw) has been named the MACCC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Thames, a 5-foot-8 sophomore guard from Choctaw Central, scored 31 points, including the game-winning 20-footer at the buzzer to lead the No. 8 Bobcats to a 69-67 overtime win over No. 23 Shelton State. Thames also had four rebounds and three assists in the win. She followed that up with 23 points in an 82-68 victory over Murray State College. She shot 51 percent for the two games.
Through four games, Thames is the nation’s second-leading scorer at 26.3 points per game.
