Hutchinson Community College freshman guard Kiki Smith had a pair of clutch performances to help the No. 1-ranked Blue Dragon women’s basketball team earn a pair of big victories last week.
Smith was named the Jayhawk Conference Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second-straight week on Tuesday and it was her four conference honor this season.
The 5-foot-7 guard from Topeka led the top-ranked Blue Dragons to big wins at Cowley on the road and over No. 21 Butler last week.
Smith averaged 23.0 points per game, shooting 68.4 percent from the field and hitting 8 of her 10 attempted 3-pointers. She also averaged 2.5 rebound, 2.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
Against Cowley, Smith scored 17 points with five steals to power the Dragons on the road. She then scored 15 of her game-high 29 points in the second half to lead a Blue Dragon comeback from 10 points down to defeat the No. 21 Grizzlies. The 10 free throws were a single-game season high.
