David Wingett Jr. (Winnebago) Led Peru state with 14 points to Help the Bobcats Advance to the Heart Conference Championship Game on Monday

The Peru State Men’s Basketball Team defeated the #1 seed and nationally ranked #10 MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers in Olathe, Kansas, 71-67, on Friday night, snapping the Pioneers 17 game win streak. The Bobcats are now 19-11 and will take on the Baker Wildcats on Monday, March 4th.
 
The Bobcats came out hot in the first half holding back the Pioneers to take a 10-0 lead in the first five minutes of the half. The Pioneers managed to find a way to close the gap and take the lead 33-26 but the Bobcats weren’t done fighting as they continued work back to their lead. The Pioneers led after the first half 32-35.
 
David Wingett Jr., evened the score right away in the second half with a three pointer. The Bobcats and Pioneers went back and forth until the Cats were able to take an eight point lead with 3:51 on the clock. As the Pioneers got the lead back down to one with only 20 seconds left, the Bobcats weren’t giving up the game. Free throws by Skyler Wilson gave the Bobcats a three-point lead as a final free throw by Carlos Hines sealed the game as the Bobcats took the win 71-67.
 
David Wingett Jr., had 14 points with three steals and one rebound for the Bobcats. Ajantae Hogan also tallied 14 points with four rebounds against the Pioneers. Amir Poat had 12 points and six rebounds with Sayvon Traylor having 12 points with four rebounds. Skyler Wilson had eight points and four rebounds for the Bobcats with Carlos Hines tallyin seven points and three rebounds.
 
The Bobcats will take on the Baker Wildcats on Monday, March 1st in Baldwin City, Kansas. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM.
