Independence, Kan. – The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women’s Basketball Team ended their 2024 regular season with a resounding 69-51 victory over their cross-county rivals the Independence Pirates. The victory avenged an earlier season 70-43 home loss against the Pirates. With the victory, Coffeyville ends their regular season with a 19-11 overall record and a 14-10 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matchups. The 14-10 record has the Red Ravens seeded fifth heading into the Region VI Championship Tournament.
Coffeyville started hot against the Pirates racing ahead 16-3 after a made Ivy Fox (MHA) 3-pointer at the 6:21 mark of the first quarter. However, the Pirates stormed back to take a one-point 21-20 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Red Ravens took the lead for good early in the second quarter while the tenacious defense by Coffeyville would not let the Indy offense have an easy go of it. Coffeyville posted a 38-34 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw the Pirates hang around, nevertheless, Coffeyville slowly pushed the lead out to 55-44 to end the third quarter, and in the fourth quarter, the Ravens extended even further out with the final score being 69-51 in favor of the Red Ravens.
Coffeyville game leaders included sophomore guard Kyleigh Ortiz (Cherokee) who had a nice line of 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists while sophomore Ivy Fox added 14 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore Tetona Woods-Blackowl (Cheyenne/Arapaho) had a game-high 8 assists.
