Shanoah Platero (Navajo) will be Joining the Navajo Tech Lady Skyhawks

Crownpoint, NM— On August 29, 2024, Shanoah Platero, a proud member of the Naakaaii Dine’ e’ (The Mexican People) and born for To’ Baazhni’azhi (Two Who Came to the Water People) from Chichiltah, NM, enthusiastically announced her decision to join the women’s basketball team at Navajo Technical University for the 2024-2025 season. This is an exciting opportunity for her to showcase her skills and succeed.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Aanor Louis, Shanoah happily signed her letter of intent and was supported by her mother after a memorable campus tour.

Shanoah was previously a student at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM, where she pursued Nursing and Women’s Cross Country in 2023. In addition, during her time at Miyamura High School in Gallup, NM, she wore the number 23 while playing for the varsity girls’ basketball team. Shanoah Platero also represented America’s Team (USA) in Milan, Italy, where they achieved an undefeated record and brought home the championship trophy.

Shanoah is thrilled at the chance to pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree in nursing at NTU while also fueling her passion for basketball. The nursing program has sparked tremendous interest from students dedicated to nursing careers. “I couldn’t be more excited about attending NTU. My mother is an alumna of this institution; she earned her associate’s degree in nursing here. She truly inspires me, and I’m eager to walk the same path and build my career in nursing,” Shanoah shared with genuine enthusiasm.

The women’s basketball team will start its first season in the fall of 2024. The team comprises exceptional local talent and is eager about the upcoming competitions. Aanor Louis, NTU Women’s Head Coach, expressed his excitement about welcoming Shanoah to the team, confidently stating, “We’re excited to welcome Shanoah Platero to the NTU Skyhawk family. She is a very capable student-athlete. We look forward to growing this program and Native American representation.”

There are always open player positions for all our Skyhawk teams, and our NTU athletic department offers Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Cross Country, Cycling, Archery, and Rodeo, which is a sure way to succeed! NTU strives to create and strengthen partnerships that can impact their students’ higher education success.
