David Wingett (Winnebago) will be part of Vitória Sport Clube’s squad for the 2024/2025 season

Born in Winnebago, Nebraska, in the United States of America, David Wingett is one of the basketball players who will be part of Vitória Sport Clube’s squad for the 2024/2025 season. The 25-year-old American represented Peru State College between 2022 and 2024 and is now heading into his first season at a professional level. In the last sports season, he participated in 27 games and recorded an average of 17.4 points per game. Standing at two meters tall, he stands out for his athletic ability and speed.

In his first experience abroad, David Wingett prefers not to create too many expectations. He evaluates his first few days in Portugal positively. “Vitória is a good opportunity for me. For now, I have the impression that it is a very welcoming club”, he began by saying. At the Pavilhão Unidade Vimaranense, the athlete only has good things to say about the work group. “My teammates and coaches have been very good to me. I have learned about Portuguese basketball, the style of play and I am enjoying it”, he added.

Having joined the squad, David Wingett has already started to walk the streets of the city of Guimarães. “Guimarães is a very beautiful city”, he said. The winger/center is beginning to realize that the connection with the club is special and that it helps the athletes to work even harder. “Playing in this city imposes a great sense of pride on you and that makes the players and athletes do everything to always give their best”, he concluded.

First experience outside the US: “I tried not to have too many expectations because I didn’t really know what to expect. I try to live in the present and enjoy every opportunity and every moment. Vitória is a good opportunity for me. So far, I have the impression that it is a very welcoming club and it has been incredible.”

Integration: “I knew little about Portuguese basketball before coming here. I believe the championship is full of talented players and hard-working teams with ambitions to do better and better. My teammates and coaches have been very good to me. I have learned about Portuguese basketball, our style of play and I am enjoying these first few days. The integration process has gone very well. I am enjoying this experience.”

First impressions of the city: “Guimarães is a very beautiful city. What I have noticed is that playing in this city gives you a great sense of pride and this makes the players and athletes do everything they can to give their best in every situation”.

The Victorian team: “We have a lot of talent. They are a good group, very hard-working, and we will strive to win at every opportunity. We are ambitious. This bodes well and I think it bodes well for the future.”

What he can offer the team: “I am a tall player, capable of assuming multiple positions in the game. I like to test my limits and take each play to the end. I can contribute with shots, but I am also capable of defending. I hope to directly contribute to many triumphs”.
