Jordana Reisma (Winnebago) Added 14 Points for Cleveland State in 111-67 Victory At Chicago State

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Cleveland State women’s basketball team picked up its first win of the 2024-25 campaign Saturday, earning a 111-67 victory at Chicago State. With the win, the Vikings are now 1-1 on the young season.

Game Stats
Mickayla Perdue led the Viking offense with 31 points, while Destiny Leo added 16 and Jordana Reisma and Sara Guerreiro each added 14.
-As a team, the Vikings shot 54-percent from the field (34-62), including a .647 clip during the third quarter.
-The Vikings went 33-for-41 from the free throw line on the game, marking an .805 clip.
-Cleveland State combined for 20 assists on the game, including six from Sara Guerreiro.
Sara Guerreiro grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds, while Destiny Leo added 11 boards.
-The Vikings combined for six blocked shots, with three of them coming from Jordana Resima.

Game Notes
-With three blocked shots on the day, Jordana Resima moved into a tie for ninth place in the CSU Career Record Book with 81 career blocks.
-Cleveland State’s 111 points on the night marked the 16th 100-point game in program history.
-Saturday’s game closed out the first week of the 2024-25 season and a two-game roadswing for the Vikings.

The Game
The Vikings opened the game with a quick 9-2 lead following a trio of three-pointers from Mickayla Perdue, while a Jordana Reisma layup a few plays later extended Cleveland State’s lead to 11-2 over the first few minutes.

Although Chicago State was able to work its way into the contest over the next few possessions to bring the score to 13-7, the Vikings answered with five straight points to regain an 18-7 lead on a Resima layup. The Vikings then extended their lead with a 6-3 scoring run, gaining a 24-10 advantage on back-to-back layups from Perdue. Cleveland State held this lead throughout the rest of the first quarter then, taking a 28-14 advantage into the second frame.

After the two teams traded baskets to open the second quarter Cleveland State went on an 11-0 scoring run – including a pair of Leo three-pointers – extending its lead to 20+ points at 41-18 midway through the frame. The Vikings then held this lead throughout the rest of the quarter, as another Perdue three-pointer late in the frame put Cleveland State up 56-31 at the halftime break.

The two teams traded baskets throughout the first part of the third quarter, until back-to-back layups from Reisma and Perdue put Cleveland State up 66-41 with just over five minutes left in the frame. The Vikings then closed the quarter on a 15-3 run, extending its lead to 32 points at 84-52 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

Cleveland State went on to control play throughout the final quarter then, coming away with the 111-67 victory.
