MISSOULA, Mont. – The Weber State women’s basketball team dropped 2-2 in Big Sky play as the Wildcats fell to the Montana Griz 70-74 this Thursday evening.
First Half |Lanae Billy’s consistent 3-pointers throughout the first quarter helped the Wildcats stay close to the Griz. However, with under three minutes to go, a 6-0 run pulled Montana ahead by seven. With just one second on the clock, Kendra Parra secured a 3-pointer and the Wildcats closed out the quarter trailing by four.
Montana began to pull away at 36-30 until a 6-0 run allowed the Wildcats to trail the Griz by just four points. Continuing to stay close throughout the remaining final minute of the quarter, again a Parra 3-pointer at the buzzer ended the half with the ‘Cats one point behind at 41-40.
To end the half, Billy totaled 15 points with five of those coming from behind the arc. Parra was close behind with 11 points, going 3-3 from the arc.
Second Half | The Griz continued to keep their lead into the third quarter, going up by six early on. Two runs then made by Montana gave the team a boost headed into the final frame 60-49.
The Wildcats made their comeback during the last ten minutes of gameplay. Five points made by Taylor Smith, and shortly later a 9-0 run by the ‘Cats boosted the team to trail the Griz by three. With 42 seconds to go, Weber State looked to tie the score however, a late free throw with just four seconds on the clock earned Montana the win 74-70.
