Alayna Contreras (Ojibwe) improved her career-high to 33 points for Kansas City who fall at ORU

TULSA, Okla. — Kansas City Women’s Basketball (9-18, 5-7) leaped out to a strong start, but could not stave off a hot-shooting Oral Roberts (20-6, 10-3) falling 88-109 in the offensive battle. KC stayed within striking distance in the first quarter, and doubled down on a comeback attempt in the fourth, closing a 24-point ORU lead to 12 in the final six minutes of play. Kansas City’s comeback fell short, and the Golden Eagles ran away with the win in the final minutes.

Alayna Contreras sparked the Kansas City offense with her third 30-point performance and a new career-high of 33. Emani Bennett joined her with 20 points on 4-of-8 shooting in the fourth quarter and Lisa Thomas earned 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. The Roos won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Golden Eagles 41-to-31 and bringing down 15 offensive rebounds. Elauni Bennett brought down a game-high 14 rebounds in the loss.
