Canzas HisBadHorse (Northern Cheyenne) game-high 19 points Led MSUN in Win over Montana Tech in Frontier Conference quarterfinals

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – In a nail-biting opening round of the Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament, the MSU-Northern Skylights clinched a close victory over the Montana Tech Orediggers, 76-73. Held at the Pacific Steel & Recycling Arena at the Montana ExpoPark in Great Falls, Mont., the fifth-seeded Skylights overcame the fourth-seeded Orediggers in a tightly contested match.

Despite trailing at halftime with a score of 38-36, the Skylights, led by Canzas HisBadHorse’s game-high 19 points, rallied in the second half to maintain their lead into the final quarter. Katelynn Forner and Taya Trottier also contributed significantly, scoring 14 and 11 points respectively. Additional support from Lynnea Moran, who added 7 points and 4 assists, and Becky Melcher’s critical block and steal, helped secure the Skylights’ victory.

Coach Chris Mouat praised his team’s resilience, stating, “Our players showed great determination and executed our game plan effectively in the critical moments.”

The Skylights are set to face top-seeded Rocky Mountain in the semifinals round of the tournament Monday (March 3) with a 12 p.m. tip-off at the same venue.
