Chris Wondolowski (Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma) is Major League Soccer’s Mr. October.
He might not get as much pub as Major League Baseball’s Reggie Jackson, the original Mr. Oct., but they’re both legends of the fall.
Wondo scored his 14th goal of the season in San Jose’s 2-1 loss on Saturday, and the 19th of his career in the month of October. Next closest on the list? Edson Buddle…with 12.
Perhaps even more impressive, each of Wondo’s 19 goals has come since 2010 – over the course of 16 games. That’s an average of roughly 1.2 goals per game in the final month of the season.
Buddle has strung his 12 goals together over the course of 32 games since 2003. Even Landon Donovan, Major League Soccer’s leader in, well, seemingly everything these days, has just 10 goals in 30 October games.
Translation: All hail Chris Wondolowski, Reggie’s brother-from-another-mother.
