Bartlesville, OK—
Haskell Men’s basketball continued conference play Tuesday night with a convincing 99-82 win over the host Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles, in what is the first of three games the Fighting Indians will play on the road. Haskell showed tenacious defensive pressure and hustle as it held the host team to a very poor shooting night from the floor.
In what started as a back and forth game, it was Duelle Gore (JR/Brighton, FL)’s (15 pts, 5 rebounds) jumper and three point shot with a little over 11 minutes to play in the first half, which would send Haskell on an impressive 42-17 run, with a mid-court buzzer beater by Marcus Middleton (SO/Del City, OK) (8 pts) that would send the Fighting Indians into the half up by 21.
A Stand Lovato (SR/Sapulpa, OK) (9 pts, 5 assists) lob pass to Randy July (SR/Tulsa, OK) (17 pts, 4 steals) to start the second half, showed Haskell was not letting up after a dominating first half performance. In a game where Haskell would have 4 players score in double digits: Dallas Rudd (JR/Davis, OK) (14 pts, 5 rebounds, 1 block), Zack Bruns(SO/Havelock, NC) (13 pts, 5 rebounds) it was the relentless pressure and hot shooting from the field (50%) and free throw line (33-39, 84%) which gives Haskell momentum as they prepare for what was the first of three games to be played on the road. Haskell moves to 2-1 in conference play.
“Last night we were able to execute our game plan to a “T”, we had a game plan going in there, establishing the inside presences utilizing our height and size, once we got the ball inside and established the inside game then the outside game opened up.” said head men’s basketball coach Chad Kills Crow.
