LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women’s basketball, taking part in its final regular-season home game, faces Boston College on Thursday in the KFC Yum! Center at 7 p.m. on ‘Senior Night.’
Prior to the contest, No. 8 Louisville will conduct a ceremony for seniors Shawnta’ Dyer, Sara Hammond, Jude Schimmel, Bria Smith, andS heronne Vails. Currently the winningest senior class in school history, the group has helped Louisville produce 108 victories, while guiding the program to the 2013 NCAA Final Four and 2014 NCAA Elite Eight.
The Jan. 29 contest will be broadcast on WKRD 790 AM in Louisville, with Matt Andrews (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst) on the call. Fans can watch the game through CardsTV, either through GoCards.com or the GoCards.com GameDay Live mobile application.
Louisville (23-4, 11-3 ACC) had its four-game winning streak snapped, falling at fourth-ranked Notre Dame 68-52 on Monday. The Cardinals outrebounded the Fighting Irish 37-33 and forced 13 turnovers, but Notre Dame made 20 of its 23 trips to the free throw line. Louisville had 14 assists on its 21 field goals.
Sara Hammond, Mariya Moore, and Shawnta’ Dyer each scored 11 points in the loss, with Hammond collecting nine rebounds. Jude Schimmel had seven assists and four steals.
On the year, Moore is leading the Cardinals in scoring (14.0), assists (104), 3-pointers (46), and free throws (104). Myisha Hines-Allen is adding 11.8 points, and Hammond is contributing 11.1 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds. Schimmel (55) and Bria Smith (53) are pacing the Cardinals in steals, ranking in the top five each in the ACC.
The Eagles (12-15, 4-10) have lost three of their last five games, falling 86-68 to No. 9 Florida State on Feb. 22. Boston College hit 10 3-pointers, but it allowed FSU to take a 45-29 lead at the half behind 69.2 percent shooting. The Seminoles scored 40 of their points in the paint and finished with 53.3 percent shooting clip for the game.
Emilee Daley had a team-high 17 points in the loss to go with seven turnovers. Kelly Hughes and Nicole Boudreau each tallied 16, with Boudreau earning six assists.
On the year, Hughes leads the team in scoring (15.1), rebounding (7.1), and is second in assists (70). She has connected on a team-best 74 3s. Boudreau is contributing 11.8 points and 4.6 rebounds, while pacing the squad with 39 steals. Daley is averaging 8.7 points and has connected on 47 3s. As a team, Boston College is tallying an ACC-best 8.4 3-pointers per game on an average of 23 attempts.
The Eagles are under the direction of third-year coach Erik Johnson, who has a 36-53 record at the helm of the program. Boston College was picked to finish 13th in the league in the ACC Preseason Media Poll after going 12-19 last year.
