(Espanola, NM ) – It was a difficult loss on Friday to NNMC but the women’s team was determined to leave a winner from the state of New Mexico. On Saturday, they did just that as they left no doubt in an 80 – 51 victory over Johnson & Wales University. HINU took the lead on an early 11 – 0 run in the first period and would sustain a 22 – 15 advantage at the break.
The strong offense continued in the second as Haskell would produce 25 points in comparison to eight points by JWU. The Indians left the court at half with a very comfortbale 47 – 23 lead.
The third period brought on a similar route as HINU kept the scoring coming with 22 points compared to JWU’s 6. With the extended lead, the Indians would close out the Cats in the fourth and return a winner. For Haskell, Cerissa Honena-Reyes led all scorers with 16 points while Tyler Sumpter and Keli Warrior each had 15 a piece.
