HASKELL WINS A.I.I. WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CROWN; 4 Lady Indians Named to All-Tournament Team

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — It may not be March quite yet, but Haskell certainly served up some madness on Sunday afternoon as the third-seeded Indians upended College of the Ozarks to hoist the A.I.I. Division 2 Women’s Basketball Championship trophy at the U.S. Cellular Center.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME — Haskell 79, Ozarks 75

College of the Ozarks may have entered the A.I.I. tournament as the third-ranked team in the country, but Haskell definitely proved up to the task, showing off a remarkably efficient offense that connected on 51.6% of its shots, including 46.2% of those take from beyond the three-point arc.

Both Cerissa Honena-Reyes and A.I.I. Tournament MVP Tyler Sumpter starred offensively for the Indians as the duo combined to go 14-of-24 from the field for 38 points. Kortney Meat and Arnetia Begay also reached double figures for HINU, which trailed by as many as nine points in the early goings.

Meanwhile, Lakin Simmerman led the Bobcats with 18 points on the day, and Brandy Uchtman finished with 15 as CofO was held to 38% shooting on the day.
