SILVER CITY, N.M. – November 14, 2016 – Alyssa Yocky recorded her first double-double of the season and fourth career double-double to lead the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team to a 72-54 win at Western New Mexico University Monday night.  The win improves the Skyhawks to 3-0 on the season while WNMU falls to 2-1.

“With this being the third game in four days on the road, I was really happy with the way we came out and stretched the lead in the first half,” said head coach Jason Flores.  “The flip side was that we were too careless with the ball in the second half and let them back in it a little.  But we regrouped and closed the game out strong which was good to see.  We can’t wait to get home and have the chance to play on our court on Saturday.”

Yocky netted 6-of-13 field goals and made 2-of-4 from the free throw line for 15 points.  All 10 of her game high rebounds came on the defensive end of the glass.  She also added an assist, a steal and blocked one shot.

Natalie Stilwell led all scorers with 16 points after she hit on 8-of-10 field goals.

Kayla Herrera added 11 points and dished out six assists.  She was one rebound short of a double-double.  Four of her nine caroms were offensive rebounds.

Briana Clah (Navajo Nation) notched 10 points and posted a game high seven assists.  Clah made 3-of-5 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from long range.

The Skyhawks made 50 percent of their shots from the floor (29-of-58).

FLC jumped out to a 29-13 lead after one quarter and held the Mustangs to nine points in the second quarter for a 48-20 halftime lead.

Fort Lewis posted 48 rebounds to the Mustangs 34, and held WNMU to a 29.6 field goal shooting mark (21-of-71) and 9.5 percent from long range (2-of-21).

The Skyhawks will open their home season this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Northern New Mexico College.
