Lakota Beatty (Caddo/Lakota) Scores 14 Points for ORU who fall in double-overtime at Kansas; Ashley added 5 points for Eagles

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Oral Roberts women’s basketball team fell to Kansas 64-56 Wednesday evening at Allen Fieldhouse in double overtime.

It was a back and forth battle between the Golden Eagles and the Jayhawks in the first quarter. Both teams shot 33 percent from the field and combined both teams’ committed 15 turnovers. Faith Ihim led ORU with four points and two rebounds. Kansas led ORU at the end of the first quarter 12-10.

ORU went out on a 6-0 run before the media timeout in the second quarter. Lakota Beatty hit a pair of three-pointers that jump started the Golden Eagles. Kansas came back and took a two point lead going in to halftime.

Faith Ihim scored the first bucket of the second half and tied the game. Kansas jumped out to a seven point lead towards the end of the third quarter, but Lakota Beatty drove the lane and scored a layup that put the Golden Eagles down by five at the end of the third.

ORU fell in to an eight point hole, but rallied back and trailed the Jayhawks by two at the media timeout. Hot shooting put the Jayhawks ahead by seven with 3:42 remaining in the game. Jordan Gilbert hit a key three pointer and Maria Martianez got a bucket in transition and the Golden Eagles were able to pull within two and eventually tie the game and send it to overtime.

In the first overtime period the team’s exchange buckets. ORU extended its lead to three, but Kansas came back to eventually tie and sent the game to its second overtime period.

In the second overtime period, Kansas made two key three point buckets. The Golden Eagles gave their best effort, but could not overcome the deficit and fell short to the Jayhawks 64-56. Kansas outscored ORU 12-4 in the second overtime period.

The Golden Eagles will take a weekend trip to Houston to play Houston Baptist on Saturday, November 26 at 2 p.m. ORU holds a 3-1 all-time record against the Huskies. In their last contest, the Golden Eagles fell to Houston Baptist 84-75 in Houston on February 13, 2014.
